Healed Full Head Japanese Tattoo by Billy Betts

When it comes to bold, statement-making tattoos, few can compare to a full head Japanese-style piece — and this one by @billybettstattoos at our studio is a true showstopper.

Taking pride of place at the very top of the head is a large Japanese frog, a symbol of good fortune and safe travels. Flowing around it are dynamic flames, weaving the design together and adding movement and intensity.

On one side sits the Uchide no Kozuchi — the lucky hammer from Japanese folklore, said to grant wishes and wealth to its owner. On the other, a graceful Sakura branch pairs with a wind charm inscribed with the kanji 風 (Kaze, meaning “wind”), evoking themes of change, nature, and balance.

Scattered throughout the design are delicate Sakura blossoms and lucky coins, bringing extra layers of meaning and detail. At the back of the neck, the tattoo finishes with a Fu-dog (Shishi), a protective guardian often seen in traditional Japanese art and temple entrances.

This video shows the tattoo fully healed. The reds will need a final touch-up — totally expected in such a challenging, high-movement area — but even without that, the strength of the lines and vibrancy of the colour are proof of Billy’s skill.
